In the construction of hydraulic structures such as dams, hydropower stations and reservoirs, the stability of natural slopes and the prediction of their changes under the influence of construction projects are the main problems in the study of river valley engineering geology. In order to solve the stability of high slope with heterogeneous complex structure, the natural stress state of slope rock mass can be compared with that of rock mass strength. The strength of the rock mass can be experimentally determined in the field or under laboratory conditions. The stress acting on the slope rock mass is either determined by field tests such as stress relief or by means of laboratory model tests and calculations.
