Although metaphor is a universal principle of the conceptualization of emotions in English and Chinese, there are obvious differences in the specific use. From the expression of “anger”, we can see that the metaphorical trace of English emotional expression is western body fluid theory, and the metaphorical trace of Chinese emotional expression is our country’s traditional philosophy and medical theory. The conceptualization of emotions in both English and Chinese is a metaphorical process on the one hand, and deeply rooted in their own socio-cultural context on the other. Revealing such influences helps to deepen our understanding of the similarities and differences in the conceptualization of English and Chinese and to improve learners’ vocabulary learning efficiency in English teaching.
