In this paper, the acoustic emission method was used to measure the toughness of the laser phase-change hardened layer of W18Cr4V high-speed steel. The effect of laser transformation strengthening on the toughness of HSS was analyzed. The results show that laser strengthening can significantly improve the toughness of W18Cr4V steel.
