The development of FMS (flexible manufacturing system) must be based on practicality and on the premise of technical stability. Just as the new processing line installed by Gardner Diesel in Manchester, introduced by John Hoston. For this reason, in 1982 the British government made a decision on the development of financial support for this FMS system. Not a few days after this decision was announced, Britain’s earliest fully flexible manufacturing system was born in Gardner’s Manchester factory. Its rapid development has not only shown the special concern of the industrial sector, but also made it difficult for many people to confirm its value for a time and thus did not qualify for government funding. Despite this, the outlook for the system is certain. Recent events in the past three years have shown that FMS is based on standard machine tools and equipment. It is correct for the development of its units or users.
