The Danish National Railways (hereinafter referred to as the Danish State Railways) only bear 13% of the domestic cargo traffic, 3.2 million tons. Its international traffic volume increases about 4 million tons every year. Danish National Railways plans to invest NOK 470 million in the last five years in developing container shipping. From 1977 to 1978, Danish National Railways purchased 1,700 containers, actively equipped with the latest loading and unloading facilities for major hubs and stations and built container yards. Danish Railways has ordered a number of loaders for use at several port terminals and has also purchased a 42-ton port crane for use at the freight terminal in Copenhagen.
