北约东扩是冷战后国际关系领域的一个重要问题，它不仅关系着北约自身的生存与发展，而且对建立什么样的欧洲新安全体系有着极其重要的影响。当前，北约东扩既面临俄罗斯的强烈反对，又受到中东欧国家内部矛盾和自身条件的制约以及北约国家间分歧的影响，障碍重重，在短期内难以实现。但从长远看，经过以美国为首的北约和俄罗斯漫长而激烈的讨价还价，双方有可能达成某种妥协，实现北约向东扩展。
The eastward expansion of NATO is an important issue in the field of international relations after the Cold War. It not only has an impact on the survival and development of NATO itself, but also has an extremely significant impact on the establishment of a new European security system. At present, NATO’s eastward expansion faces not only the strong opposition from Russia, but also the internal conflicts in Central and Eastern Europe and its own conditions as well as the disagreements among NATO countries. It has many obstacles and is hard to come by in the near future. However, in the long run, after long and intense bargaining by NATO and Russia headed by the United States, it is possible for both sides to reach some compromise and achieve NATO’s eastward expansion.
