地名的英译从本质上说也是一种跨文化交际行为,尤其是典故类地名,更需要译者从跨文化交际的视角来审视其文化内涵,从而将文化信息准确的传递给异域文化者。本文基于所搜集到的几个代表性译例,对跨文化交际意识下的具有文化典故的地名翻译作以浅析,分析了此类中文地名翻译的基本指导原则和策略及其具体翻译方法,以及各种翻译方法的适用范围,拟就跨文化视域下文化典故的翻译试做深刻的探讨和分析,以村镇名“贞元”为具体剖析对象。分析了此类中文地名翻译的基本指导原则和策略及其具体翻译方法,以及各种翻译方法的适用范围,在此基础上,探讨了地名“贞元”的翻译,并提出:该类地名的翻译原则应该是“音译为主,适当意译,照顾通译”以及“名从主人,约定俗成,标准汉音”等。
English translation of place names is essentially a kind of intercultural communication behavior, especially allusions.
