明朝初年,图们江流域的女真人接受了明朝的招抚,设立了建州等卫,后因一些原因相继的向南迁移,而留在原地的这些女真人被称为东海女真瓦尔喀部。由于这一地区居于中朝边境,地理位置较为重要,朝鲜李朝也想获得这一地区,所以努尔哈赤兴起后与朝鲜对这一地区进行了争夺。
