2001年3月8日,为了取莲花的培养土,和三蒲功大一起驱车前往枥木县马头町的小室先生处,往返共300多公里,光开车就花了一整天时间。这一次不光为我们自己,还肩负着向第一次养殖莲花的小学校的老师和学生提供培养土的重任。3月12日,小学生们和他们年轻的母亲饶有兴致地对土进行加工,往原土里加一些草木和土、化肥等。这以后,我去了两次中国。5月5日,小学校方面由于日照充足,出芽稍早,‘东湖春晓’、‘舞妃莲’已经长出了二三片叶子。
