《现代汉语词典》同时收录了“开交”与“不可开交”两个词,但在实际语言运用中“开交”一词只用于否定式,而且只与“不可”搭配为“不可开交”的形式使用。从“开交”到“不可开交”的演变有一个历时发展的过程。“开交”一词始见于元代,在元明时期则多用于肯定式;后来随着意义的发展,从清代开始多用于否定式,否定形式有多种,最终“不可开交”淘汰其他形式占据优势地位,固定为词。
