OBJECTIVE: Porphyromonas gingivalis (P.g.), a pathogenic bacteria of periodontitis, also causes cardiovascular system diseases. In the present study, adhesion and invasion of four P.gs to human gingival epithelial cells, human cardiovascular endothelial cells, and human umbilical vein endothelial cells were compared. To investigate the adhesion and invasion of P.g to human gingival epithelial cells and cardiovascular endothelial cells. Methods: The ability of bacteria to adhere to and invade various cells was tested by antibiotic protection experiment. Results: The adhesion and invasion capacities of different bacteria were different. The adhesion and invasion of the same bacteria to different cells were also different. The adhesion and invasion of Pg to human gingival epithelial cells and human cardiovascular endothelial cells were significantly higher than those of human umbilicus Vein endothelial cell adhesion and invasion. Conclusion: The P.g strain has similar adhesion and invasion ability to gingival epithelial cells and human cardiovascular endothelial cells.
