近20年来关于纵波速度与海底介质密度的关系已进行了许多研究.E.L.Hamilton指出:介质的弹性模量和刚度在很大程度上取决于孔隙率。或者说,孔隙率更能在声速度这一物理量中得到反映。由此推理,应当研究的是速度与介质孔隙率之间的关系。而实际上,大量的研究工作是在研究ν—ρ曲线,这可能是由于密度这个量便于测量,而且各海区不同类型底介质密度的调查资料发表的比较多。如果确知ν—ρ之间的关系,那么以地震法(或其它法)测得底介质中声速值,就可运用ν—ρ关系曲线得知底的介质密度,再配合其 Much research has been done on the relationship between P-wave velocity and density of seafloor media in the past two decades.E.L.
