Barack Obama' s election as the 44th U.S.president opened a new chapter in the country' s history of race relations,but as his second term comes to an end,black-white tensions have resurfaced 50 years after the civil rights movement,forcing questions about the persistence of American racism and entrenched discriminatory practices.Many black Americans were dissatisfied with how Obama was dealing with race relations,particularly after incidents of brutality by white police,riots and public protests,and revelations of high incarceration rates for blacks showed that improvements in race relations over the past half-century have been meager.
