Introduction The development of vermicular graphite cast iron has further led to the study of the crystallization of cast iron and the understanding of the factors that control the morphology of the graphite during solidification. The formation of wormlike graphite is generally believed to be the result of the degeneration of spheroidal graphite. However, the growth pattern of vermicular graphite may be closer to platelet graphite. Direct observation of the nucleation and growth of graphite is not yet possible.
