白铜的发明是我国古代冶金技术中的杰出成就。唐代时规定,只有为一品朝臣拉车的小牛身上,才能用白铜作为装饰品,可见其是很珍贵的。现在一般人所知道的白铜是指铜镍合金,称镍白铜。当把镍熔入红铜里,含量超过16%以上时,色泽变得洁白如银。我国云南一带是镍白铜的故乡。那里所产白铜也最有名,人们就像称呼湖笔、端砚、徽墨一样,而称云南白铜为“云白铜”。至迟在公元4世纪时,云南就生产白铜了。而据《汉书》记载:“犍为郡西南朱
