人们为什么把一切物体统称为“东西”?我国古代把木、火、金、水、土称为“五行”(分别代表东西南北中五个方位):把甲、乙、丙、丁、戊、已、庚、辛、壬、癸称为“天干”,又把“五行”、“天干”对应起来,组成“五方”。即:东方甲乙木,南方丙丁火,西方庚辛金,北方壬癸水,中方戊己士。可以看出,东方属木,可以代表—切植物,如花草、树木、疏菜、庄稼等等:西方属金,可以代表一切金属矿物,如金、银、铜、铁、锡等等;南方属火,火是一种化
