小麦在全世界范围来说都是一种大规模种植的作物。1995年到1997年之间,每年世界范围内小麦种植地超过22.5亿公顷,小麦年产量为56亿吨,占全世界谷类食品产量的四分之一以上。小麦虽是很多发达国家和发展中国家人民的主食,然而它的营养价值却不如大豆和玉米高,而且在遗传技术上很难进行改造,所以直到最近它才成为生物技术及该行业的科学家关注的焦点。
Wheat is a large-scale crop all over the world.
