In binary transition metal nitrogen complexes, the double nitrogen bond stretching frequency (cm -1) is strongly related to the transition metal solubility factor. The crystalline structure of the transition metal also has a significant effect, and it is better to rationalize the stability of the complex from these two factors than from the relative position of the family or period of the periodic table.
