Metaphor is not only a rhetorical device, but also a cognitive phenomenon, a way of thinking. It becomes a bridge for people to know new things and understand complicated and abstract things. Metaphor in people’s daily life can be seen everywhere, especially human metaphors, which are common in both English and Chinese. This paper will analyze the phenomenon of human metaphor in English and Chinese using metaphor theory, compare their similarities and differences, and analyze their pragmatic value so that people can better understand and use human metaphors in order to meet the needs of foreign cultural exchanges and intercultural communication.
