Gold-bearing sulphide ores often contain finely divided gold and other precious metal particles in their sulfide lattices. Due to the inclusion of precious metal particles, it is difficult to treat such ore with conventional extraction methods, leaving the metal often left in the tailings and discarded. This work examined the possibility of pretreatment of such refractory tailings using biochemical leaching prior to use of common extraction techniques such as cyanidation. Lead gold gold ore tailings gold flotation froth enrichment. Prior to cyanide leaching, pyrite concentrates were treated with different periods of 12-week-old Thiobacillus ferrooxidans. The biochemical leaching of the concentrate before cyanidation leaching can increase the gold extraction rate from 32% to 95% and the silver extraction rate from 48% to over 98%.
