On October 10, the Mercury Treaty Diplomatic Conference organized by the United Nations Environment Program adopted the Minamata Convention in Kumamoto, Japan, aimed at controlling and reducing global mercury emissions. The convention clearly requires that mercury production per unit of PVC be reduced by 50% by 2020 compared to 2010. On the same day, 87 countries and regions including China signed the convention. The convention is expected to enter into force in 2016 after being approved by the governments of 50 countries. The official signing of the convention indicates that calcium carbide process PVC has been thoroughly and thoroughly used
