砖混结构是我国住宅建筑采用较广的一种体系。这种体系在抗震性能上比较差。唐山地震表明无筋多层砖混住宅所受的破坏极其严重,造成人员大量伤亡。我国《建筑结构设计统一标准》(初稿)指出:“建筑结构设计的目标是……在偶然事件发生时及发生后,仍然保持必要的整体稳定性”。值得指出的是:由于地震发生的偶然性,在低烈度区发生高烈度地震的可能性是存在的。近年来,我国发生的强烈地震几乎都发生在历史上没有大地震记载的地区。如唐山的基本烈度原为6度,却发生了10~11度强震。因此,提高住宅建筑的抗震能力是十分必要的。唐山地震调查表明,虽然多层砖混结构的建筑物倒坍率很高,但也有一些裂而未倒。如地区外贸局办公楼(四层),位于10度区;
