On May 25, Nature Geoscience published an article saying that the latest research shows that the earliest continental crust in the earth formed in a tectonic setting similar to modern Iceland. The oceanic crust on Earth may be the first to be formed. However, it is unclear how the earliest continental crust was formed. It may be the earliest formation of an island-like structure in the ocean. Then the mantle uplifts to produce magma, which condenses and crystallizes to form a new crust. Among the oceanic plateaus, Iceland is most closely associated with the continental crust because of its unusually thick crust and its relatively high proportion of siliceous (silica-rich) rocks. Therefore, Iceland is considered the most suitable for simulating the earliest earth
