This article is an excerpt from a long memoir entitled “The Life of My Home and Polanna of Jasna,” in Tatyana Kurzinskaya (1846-1925) (Soviet Union Prixkoye Press, 1976, ). The author is the sister of Sophia Tolstoy’s wife Sophia and the prototype of the character Natasha in War and Peace. She lives in Tolstoy for a long time and has a deep observation and understanding of her life and creation. In a plethora of studies and memoirs about Tolstoy, she has enjoyed a great reputation in the Soviet literary field with a great deal of its own historical data.
