The transistor amplifier described herein includes a circuit that improves its efficiency and linearity by varying the collector supply voltage in a manner that is synchronized with the difference between the envelope of the input amplitude modulated signal and the envelope of the attenuation of the output amplitude modulated signal. This difference signal is used to control an approximately lossless DC transformer that provides the amplifier with a variable collector supply voltage. With this circuit, the collector voltage is automatically reduced during the negative period of the modulation signal to improve its efficiency. And the gain of the transistor changes in such a way that any distortion of the output due to the transistor non-linearity is canceled. Slightly changing the circuit can be a modulator of high power levels.
