Previous researchers have shown that there are two different types of creep properties in binary solid solutions. When dislocation viscous slip is the rate control mechanism, the first type of solid solution was found to exhibit a stress index of n = T = 3. The second type of solid solution is characterized by an n value of 5 when the creep mechanism is governed by a recovery process such as dislocation climbing control ~ 5. It has been previously reported ~ 6 that adding a trace amount of a third metal to a binary alloy solid solution can greatly affect its creep properties. The purpose of this experiment was to investigate the effect of addition of 0.3Fe (wt%) on the creep properties of the binary alloyed Al-2Mg (wt%). Experiments with a purity of not less than 99.99% of the base metal preparation
