A new study in Japan shows that about 175 km of seabed outside of the Hatch Peninsula in Miyagi Prefecture moved about 30 meters to the southeast after the Great Japan Earthquake. This finding refreshed the “Maximum Crustal Change” value of 24 meters, which was previously announced by the Japan Coast Guard, after the earthquake. The center observes the seabed crust, which is about 3,200 meters deep near the trench in Japan. Northeastern University in order to investigate the long-term changes in the crust, set up here observational instruments. Researchers use the Global Positioning System to launch from accurately positioned ships
