实事求是地说,迄今为止,我国的悲剧理论研究进展不大,状态并不令人满意。虽然从上世纪以来不少学者曾致力于这个领域的探索,并且在某些侧面也曾取得过可喜的成果,但总体上讲,基本构架还未形成,远谈不上系统,完备。其理论研究的局限性可以概括为以下几点。第一是空间狭小。注意力往往集中在与悲剧本质有关的几个范畴上,就事论事,而对人类悲剧意识的发生发展及其表现形式无论从纵向或横向、宏观或微观上都没有进行深层挖掘,因而缺乏历史感和思想深度。第二是角度偏斜。真正从美学的角度契入这个领域的不多,大都从政治的、伦理的或宗教的、哲学的方面出发,因而悲剧定义只是各取所需地被运用,并且也只能
