明代自武举开科,就有人不断呼吁开设武殿试,但直到崇祯四年,这一建议才被部分采纳,由此产生了该年始开武举殿试的说法.然而,细考相关史料,可知直至明亡,明廷都没有在武会试之上举行过由皇帝主持的武殿试;只是自崇祯四年武会试开始由皇帝钦定其中式者前二十位的名次并举行传胪、给赏等仪式而已.
