20世纪初期,北京大学校长蔡元培曾把普通教育的宗旨定为“养成健全的人格,发展共和的精神”。当代教育更应注重学生健康人格的教育和养成,这既是新世纪教育的基本出发点,更是未来教育的终极目标。历史学是认识和阐释人类社会发展进程及其规律的一门学科,与人类在政治、经济、文化、社会等方面的活动密切相关,具有提高国民素质的教育功能,是人文社会科学中的一门基础学科。在历史教学中,正视人格教育的各种因素,开发、利用周围可供进行人格教育的各种资源,充分发挥历史课是人格教育的主渠道作用,帮助学生在完成基础知识和基本技能训练的同时,促使学生健全人格的形成和发展。
