目前,碳弧气刨广泛地应用于多种金属材料的切割、焊缝清根、焊接坡口加工等工艺中。与风铲铲切工艺相比,它具有生产效率高、劳动强度低、噪音小、灵活性高、工艺装备简单等优点,同时它还能切割某些氧-乙炔焰难于切割的金属材料。但是,它也存在有一些缺点:如粉尘污染严重、有一股呛人的气味、对低碳或超低碳不锈钢易产生渗碳现象而影响耐腐蚀能力等。水碳弧气刨就是在碳弧气刨的基础上发展起来的新工艺。这种新工艺比较好地解决了原来碳弧气刨所存在的那些不足之处。
