一般罐车只能装运一种液体,回送空车时往往有一半的运力被白白浪费了。如装运另外一种液体则必须对罐体进行彻底的洗刷。为了解决这个问题,美国罐车联合公司设计制造了一种能装运两种液体而且换装时不用洗刷的罐车。这种罐车的构造是这样的;在罐顶和罐底的中线之间有一块坚韧、柔软、不透气的合成纤维隔膜,这块隔膜将罐体竖着隔成两半。每半的罐顶各有一个装车孔、罐底各有一个排卸阀。当从左边的装车孔装入一种液体时,中间的隔膜随着液面的上升逐渐向右凸出过去,占据了右边的空间。到达目的地卸空后,又可以马上从右边的装车孔装入另外一种液体,隔膜又会向左边凸出过去。这样往返都不会发生空载现象了。罐车的容积为88.95米~3。经过实际运用,性能可靠,效果良好。
