文章认为，对于一个人、一个民族和一个国家来说，科学与人文相融则利，相离则弊。因为科学与人文不是彼此无关的事，科学与人文都有自己明确而强烈的追求，一个追求真，一个追求善，都在追求自己的真理，而真与善的追求往往不可分割。科学与人文都十分重视客观实际，尊重客观规律，努力探索客观存在的奥妙，二者在精神实质上是相通的。科学与人文的发展都离不开创造性思维，而正确的创造性思维都能透过现象，抓住本质，区分主次，把握关键，这是科学与人文的共同特征；同时，创造性思维又是一个整体性思维，是逻辑思维加形象思维，无论是科学家还是艺术家，其创造性思维概莫能外。教育应该是科技与人文的一体化教育。
