According to customs statistics, the total import and export volume of China’s foreign trade in the first quarter of 2000 was 98.216 billion U.S. dollars, up 40.00% over the same period of last year. The import was 46.501 billion U.S. dollars, up 41.00% over the same period of last year; the export was 51.716 billion U.S. dollars, up 39.10% over the same period of previous year. In the first quarter of 2000, the total value of imports and exports of textiles and clothing in China reached 13.646 billion U.S. dollars, up 37.89% over the same period of the previous year (the same below), accounting for 13.89% of the total import and export value of the country’s foreign trade.
