镍是人体及动植物中的基本元素。但是,有一些著者的研究表明,镍对动物是致癌的,Heath的研究指出,镍可使耗子引起恶性肿瘤。Doll等人对镍作业工人的流行病学调查,认为镍的接触与鼻癌、肺癌的发展有明显的相关性。当然,到目前为止,仅是对耗子的实验证明镍及羰基镍可引起恶性肿瘤,对人的致癌仍未证实,需通过调查研究及实验加以探索,为此必须要有相应的测定方法。Mcneely论证了血清和尿中镍含量直接反映出对环境中镍的接触程度,它通过临床化验看出,心肌梗塞、发烧、肝硬化等病人的血浆中镍含量与正常人有显著性差别。至于头发作为人群受到环境污染影响的一项检查指标,已有不少人加以研究。
