BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVE: Preterm birth is an important risk factor for neonate and neurodevelopmental outcome. Three obstetric clinical pathways can lead to preterm birth: (1) spontaneous preterm birth with intact membranes; (2) incomplete premature rupture of membranes (PPROM); and (3) maternal or fetal impotence production. Different clinical conditions lead to preterm birth is divided into indicatory and spontaneous preterm birth, neonatal outcomes also vary with the cause of premature birth. Placental function is crucial for the development and protection of the fetus, and placental dysfunction may cause the fetus to develop dysplasia and premature delivery in the uterus.
