从严格的意义上讲,中国戏曲的正式形成是以戏曲剧本的诞生为标志的.剧作《张协状元》是现存最早的戏曲剧本.对这一剧本的审视,不仅可以了解把各种艺术因素加以统一的中国戏曲的初始形态,而且可以从中找到传统戏曲中某些规律性的东西,从而为研究古典乃至现代戏曲提供有益的启迪.戏曲作为一种“以歌舞演故事”的立体艺术形式,如要加以研究,理应从各个层面对其进行全方位的观照,但由于戏剧艺术在时间和空间方面的限制,使其结构问题显得比其它艺术类型更为突出,所以本文只拟从结构的角度加以审视.当然,就早期戏曲的整体结构而言,应该包括歌舞结构和故事结构两大系统.因本文主要是从动作体系的角度来探讨戏曲结构,故歌舞结构一般不作涉及.
