一﹑三维模式的提出艾伦·P·梅瑞厄姆(Alan P.Merriam),1923—1980年,人类学家,民族音乐学家,印第安那大学人类学教授,系主任。他强调音乐在文化中的研究,于1960年将民族音乐学定义为“文化中音乐之研究”(the study of musicin culture)(Merriam 1960:109);此定义显示出,他对音乐范畴之定义为人类之一切音乐现象,并认为音乐是文化的一部分。

He emphasized the study of music in culture by defining ethnomusicology in 1960 as “the study of musicin culture” (Merriam 1960: 109); this definition shows that he is interested in the category of music Is defined as one of the human phenomenon of music, and that music is part of culture.
