古称河州的甘肃临夏自明清以来逐步形成了具有浓郁回族特色的建筑砖雕工艺——河州砖雕,至近代达到鼎盛并享誉全国,成为甘青地区传统建筑中代表性的艺术成就之一.临夏砖雕不仅有着多样的艺术表现形式,而且蕴涵着深层次的文化积淀,以及汉族文化对砖雕的影响,回族文化对砖雕的辐射。其用生动具体的形象语言表述严谨、缜密的理性思考,体现着先秦儒家的思想。河州砖雕所采用的题材通常以反映现实生活和对美好生活的祝愿。
