魏晋时代玄风炽盛,虽然《世说新语》涉及张华条目记录的言行思想体现了作者“性好老庄”的主观倾向,但是张华并不热衷组织清谈或以名士高自标置。结合《晋书》以及文学作品对比分析《世说新语》相关条目,具体指向存在的矛盾,尤其《品藻》第8条记载刘令言始入洛评价“张茂先(华)我所不解”之处,可以发现,张华人格理想应是西晋著名作家和玄儒并蓄的入世名士。相较于袁宏《名士传》记载中朝名士群体结合名教与自然的入世人生态度,张华是当时能够比较好地会通儒学、玄理于政治生活实践的代表人物之一。
