宋词中的无名氏是一种值得从整体上加以研讨的现象。在宋代无名氏词中,有多达200余首与通代尤其是宋代有名氏词互见,说明从宋代开始,就已经有不少人认为这些词的作者并非无名氏;它们自宋代以来的传播与接受,总体而言,并未因其作者身份佚失而如同想象中的那般寂寞。互见对象中频繁出现两宋名家词人,又间接表明,宋代无名氏词的整体水准同样不似传说中的那样不堪。当传名意识久已深入人心,无名氏作品自然也会因为由此激发出的创作上的个性追求,从而留下一些优秀的篇章。同时,数量居于整个中国古代词史首位的宋代无名氏词,还可以成为考量宋词之所以成其为“一代之文学”的一个要素。而充分体认词的音乐文学特性,应该更为有助于理解,在深入骨髓的传名意识笼罩下,宋词何以仍然大量出现佚名的情况。
