For a long time, in order to shorten the duration of consolidation tests, many scholars have conducted various studies. In the 1960s, some foreign scholars proposed using a continuous loading method for rapid consolidation tests. The controlled gradient test is a method of continuous loading rapid consolidation test, which was proposed by Lowe III.J. in 1969 (hereinafter referred to as CGC method). The basic concept is to continuously charge the sample and measure the deformation and pore pressure of the sample at any time. According to the measured compression of the sample, calculate the average void ratio of the sample at any instant in the test process. According to the countless points obtained from the test, draw the curve of e~log σ′, determine the deformation index, and estimate the consolidation coefficient according to a simple formula.
