中国是世界上最早种植葫芦的地方,距今已7000年了,在山东、陕西、云南新石器时代的遗址中就发现碳化葫芦的残片。中国种葫芦最普遍的地方在山东,几乎遍布齐鲁133个县的村村寨寨。葫芦文化是中国劳动人民所创造、享用和传承的一种生活文化。当今,研究葫芦文化已成为广泛的国际现象,山东作为葫芦文化的重要发祥地,葫芦文化热正在升温。葫芦开启了古代中华文明先泰时,很多文献提到了瓠。《庄子》记有“魏王贻我大瓠之种”。《周礼》中有叫场人的官员,管理种瓜瓠诸事。
