根据托马斯·德朗和维尼塔·维杰亚拉加范的研究,员工可分为A、B、C三种类型:A角就像舞台上的大牌明星,通常是公司的“明星员工”,他们雄心勃勃且能力卓越,构成了员工队伍中最优秀的10%;C角则为了保住饭碗而苦苦挣扎,他们属于绩效最不佳的那10%;而人数最多的员工则属于位于中间的B角们,他们“永远不会获得最多的收入,但也不可能使公司陷入尴尬的境地或被淘汰出局”。作为明星员工,A角在公司陷入困境时,往往会进发出力挽狂澜的能量,所以给予A角更多的关注和机会是理所当然的。但是,A角们常常我行我素,如果走向极端,可能会做出一些不顾后果或变化无常的草率行为,给公司造成严重的影响;而且雇用并保留A角的成本也非常昂贵,如果企业不能将他们的人力资本转化为现实的生产力,雇用他们或许会变成一桩赔本的买卖。那么,企业的基业常青最终是靠哪些人支撑的呢?笔者认为,或许正是那些工作踏踏实实、勤勤恳恳的B角。
