丹参是属于唇形科(Labiatae)的植物,其根茎入药用.据神农本草经记载,主治“心腹邪气,肠鸣幽幽如走水,寒热积聚,破症除,止烦满、益气”.以后诸家本草续有论述,例如名医别录谓:“养血,去心腹痛疾,结气,腰脊强,脚痹,除风邪,留热,久服利人”.本草纲目云:“活血,通心包络,治疝痛”.近人多用于子宫出血,月经不调,为妇科的要药. 关于丹参的原植物学名,现代文献说法颇不一致.在中国植物图监中记载的是Salvla Chinensis Beath Salvia miltiorrhiza is a plant belonging to Labiatae.
