武冈县地处雪峰山东南麓,江南丘陵西南侧,南岭山脉北缘,夏秋季总雨量756.9毫米,只占年雨量的54.2%,蒸发量878.1毫米,占年蒸发量的70.8%,特别在7—9月份,雨量仅318.7毫米而蒸发量达546.2毫米,成为华中夏秋相对干旱区的一部分。该县旱土资源丰富,有旱土近30万亩,占耕地面积的36.1%,甘薯是旱土最重要粮食作物,且绝大部分旱土栽种甘薯不能
Wugang County is located at the south foot of Xuefeng Mountain, southwest of the southern hills and the northern margin of the Nanling Mountains. The total rainfall in summer and autumn is 756.9mm, accounting for 54.2% of the annual rainfall. The evaporation is 878.1mm, accounting for 70.8% of the annual evaporation. Especially in July-September, the rainfall was only 318.7 millimeters while the evaporation reached 546.2 millimeters, making it a part of the summer and autumn relatively arid regions of central China.
