沙元炳(1986～1926),字健庵,如皋县城人,1891、1892两年,先后中举人、进士,1894年(清光绪二十年)殿试入翰林院任编修,加四品衔。这个时期适逢慈禧发动宫庭政变,血腥扼杀了维新新政。但变法图存乃时势所趋.维新思潮已泱及全国,于此期间,沙元炳去翰林院职返归故里。1901年,创办如皋高等小学堂,为如皋近代学校之嚆矢;次年,又办如皋会立简易师范学堂,自任创办总理,如皋开办师范教育自此始。其后如皋师范教育在此基
