Scholars have shown that half of the plant’s dry weight is made of carbon, where more than three-quarters of the carbon is absorbed by the leaves and one-fourth of the carbon is absorbed by the roots from the soil. The total leaf area of any plant far exceeds the area of soil it occupies. For example, the leaf area of a potato is three times larger than the soil it occupies. Sugarbeet is about 4-6 times as much as the soil it occupies, 25 times as much as red clover, and 85 times as much as clover. Plants with large foliage can absorb large amounts of CO2, K, N. Tymiyev has made it clear that “plants expand their own foliage with the aim of not wasting a little bit of sunlight.”
