A recent report from the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) said using timber in green buildings is an important way for the forest products industry to contribute to the transition to a low-carbon economy. Forestry is at the center of this process. Forests and forest products play an important mitigating and adapting role, not only because of their dual role as carbon sources and reservoirs, but also because of the potential for alternative mineral feedstocks due to the widespread use of wood products. A good cycle may take shape: forests remove more carbon from the atmosphere, and sustainable forest management and forest products in turn contribute to improving the quality of human life and reducing the carbon footprint. The report highlights forestry-based abatement programs and the preservation of land
