A novel nickel(II) complex Ni(C6H7N)2(SCN)2(H2O)2 (C14H18N4NiO2S2, Mr = 397.15) has been synthesized and structurally characterized by X-ray analysis. The crystal is of monoclinic, space group P21/c with a = 9.212(2), b = 13.132(3), c = 7.8794(19)(A), β = 99.142(3)o, Z = 2, V = 41.1(4)(A)3, Dc = 1.402 g/m3, μ(MoKα) = 1.264 mm-1, F(000) = 412, R1 = 0.0303 and wR2 = 0.0794 for 1387 observed reflections (I > 2σ(I)). The title complex shows a 2-D network structure extended by twelve-membered Ni2O2H2S2C2N2 ring and ten-membered NiO2H3S2CN ring.
